In the year 1919, when there were no banking facilities in Honavar, a few prominent citizens of Honavar - such as pleaders, agriculturists,
tradesmen – decided to register a co-operative credit society with a purpose of encouraging co-operation, savings and improving the standard
of living of the people of Honavar including the surrounding villages. Thus, the society was established on 17/05/1919 under the name and style
of “Honavar Urban Co-operative Credit Society” with a share capital of Rs.3,500/- and it started functioning from 22/07/1919. In the early years
itself, the society gained the confidence of the public and it is evident by the auditor’s remarks in the year 1923, that the society had achieved
a lot in the leadership of the Founder President Late M. A. Kini and the Founder Secretary Late L. K. Shanbhag Shroff.
In the initial days, the society started functioning in a building in Bunder Road, Honavar. Later, on 11/02/1963, it shifted to its present own premises.
In March 1966, the society obtained banking licence from RBI and was converted as a Bank under the name “The Honavar Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Honavar”
Since inception, the Bank is well known for its prompt customer service. It is our pride to say that, today Bank is one of the few FSWM
